Hot-rolled steel beams can be:
- special steel ones (GOST 19425-74) made of carbon and low-alloy steel;
- hot-rolled steel (GOST 8239-89).
I-beam is a steel horizontal beam, the main purpose of which is to increase the strength and reliability of various structures.
Due to the technical features and the characteristic section in the form of the letter “H”, such beams are seven times stronger and thirty times stiffer, compared to beams with a square profile. Today, a steel I-beam is considered the most reliable option for erecting supporting structures and ceilings that are prone to bending and high loads.
Where a steel beam is used:
Metal beams of I-beam section are used everywhere in construction to strengthen and increase the rigidity of structures.
They are also used for:
- construction of overpasses;
- installation of ceilings;
- construction of towers, overpasses, spans, pits.

Characteristics of the I-beam:
The main principle of species division of I-beam beams is the inclination and placement of the edges of the shelves.
With parallel shelves:
- normal “B”;
- columns “K”;
- wide-brimmed “Ш”.
With inclined faces:
- ordinary – the slope of the faces is at an angle of 6-12 degrees;
- special – no more than 12 degrees, M series – used for suspended ways, C series – for mine directions.
According to the length, there are measured, non-measured, with a length that is a multiple of the measured, with a balance of up to 5% of the mass of the lot and multiples of this balance. Rolling accuracy is determined by belonging to class A — high, and class B — ordinary. Standard sizes of I-beams are height from 10 to 100 cm, shelf width – 5.5 – 32 cm and wall thickness from 0.41.

- composition and quality of steel according to DSTU 380-2005;
- limit deviations of the dimensions and shape of the cross-section of beams and mass according to GOST 8239-89;
- curvature and bends – GOST 8239-89.
